Free Portslade history walks for 2026. Booking is essential
June 3rd at 6pm – South Portslade walk
This evening stroll around the southern half of Portslade takes us from the station, through old brickfields, orchards and coal yards, down to the harbourside and returning to the station via a windmill’s site and a farmyard. Led by Dr Geoffrey Mead
June 6th at 10am – Easthill Park history walk.
Once the private gardens of Easthill House, these 12 acres of land are packed with history. Rich Victorians, walled gardens, devasting storms, crashing spitfires and acclaimed artists. This 45 minute walk concludes with a free cup of tea at the community cafe.
June 10th at 6pm – Portslade old village conservation area
Medieval church, Tudor homes, Georgian workers cottages, grand mansions and a Victorian brewery. Join historian Trevor Povey as we encounter 1000 years of Portslade history in a one mile walk
June 13th at 10am. Emmaus site tour
Considered the birthplace of Portslade, this site has been home to the Lords of Portslade manor dating back to 1066. Discover its transformation from opulent manor house, to religious convent, through to the current day. Led by Emmaus companions, this tour gives exclusive access to the secret gardens and Georgian manor house
Portslade rich list tour. August 1st at 10am
Portslade residents have included brewery owners, Royal doctors, theatre owners, a medieval Prime Minister and one of the richest people of all time. This walk starts at Portslade Norman manor house ruins and concludes at Easthill Park.
Portslade Cemetery. August 15th at 10am
Lead by the Woodvale Volunteer group, this tour will reveal the secrets and stories of Portslade Cemetery. Opened in 1872, it contains graves of fallen heroes, wealthy Portsladers and tragic tales.
